Picking Luxury Area Rugs for a Great Room

great room rug

When picking luxury area rugs for one’s home,      care must be taken in selecting based on the    specific room that needs to be decorated. In the  case of a great room used for entertaining  purposes or a formal family room, we share below  four mistakes to avoid.

It is a common mistake to try and do one large rug  in a great room, you will be much better off,      decorating and functionality wise, to have two separate sitting areas or a sitting area and a dining area, and place two rugs like these are two different rooms. You do need to make sure that the décor in both settings is very complimenting, because of their close proximity to each other.

The only way to make one large rug work is to have a rug with an allover design with no medallion, and then have it be in a perfect size for not only the room, but for both settings and their furnishings.  It can be done, but it is so much easier and prettier to use two different but complimenting rugs.

Another common mistake is to assume that both rugs have to be going in the same direction, vertical or horizontal; don’t worry about that and place rugs in each setting without worrying about the rug’s direction in the other setting.

Same rugs in a room

The third biggest mistake is to use identical in both settings; you will not put two paintings on the wall that are exactly the same, so why would you do that with the art on the floor.  Just make sure that the two rugs are very complimenting in the design and colors, but very obviously two different rugs.

The fourth major mistake is to try and keep both rugs of the same size; choose each rug in the optimum size for each area without worrying about if the sizes are the same or different.
